Wow what a party

Thanks to Tom, Pete, Keith, Jon, Tim, Tony, Mike we made quick work of the sanding job, I estimate that we put in ~10 man-hours and this was the way to go for sure. I apologize that the beer and food never showed up, now idea what happened with that.

Next step is 2 more coats of silver (aluminum powder in a liquid base) and then the white top coat.

Thanks!

Project update

The fuselage fabric is all shrunk as of this afternoon and tomorrow I will be applying the first coat of goop known as "pink" and is brushed on.

If interested in helping this weekend please let me know, there's more fabric work to be done and easy to learn how.

Project update 5/4/08

Team,

Broken and split tubes in the cockpit have been repaired (thanks Andy G. for the use of his torches).

Rick has a few misc. pieces that he's prepping for paint at his house.

Mike is going to finish cleaning the controls (Monday night?) Mike make note that the combo to the lock is 36 - 38 - 8 and that the rear elevator pulley is all set.

New access hole in nose-bowl will be repaired by me however there is a great deal of work to be done on the nose-bowl so if there's someone with basic bodywork talents please lmk.

I hope to paint this coming Thursday night if it warms up.

2-33 Project report

We've had good progress this week, here's what went down.

-Donn vacuumed out the grit and removed the tent on Tuesday.

-Jon washed down the all parts to be painted with Paint Prep.

-I borrowed a HVLP paint sprayer system.

-I ordered all the paint and other supplies to recover with and they should be here today.

Tonight I will start to ready the shop for painting which will happen in the next few days as long as the temps are within limits.

No help required till further notice.

Thanks!

Weekend update

Team

Elevator has been striped and sandblasted, horizontal stabilizer is not done so if someone other than Pete can step forward please.

I'll be ordering supplies this week and putting out more calls for help.

Project report

Team,

Pete finished the sandblasting on the fuselage yesterday and I will be inspecting it today. Next steps will most likely be:

-Strip and prep the tail feathers (this may involve some sandblasting).
-Re-rig the tent so it's sell supporting as right now it depends on the fuselage
-Thoroughly clean all parts that will be painted (vac and wash with alcohol)

April 19 - Early Report

Pete D showed up to work on Saturday and predicted that it would be the last day of sandblasting.

Sandblasting update (4)

Team,

Amish and Pete worked a good part of Saturday on sandblasting with the black, gravity fed unit and other than needing an occasional shake it works pretty well.

I would like to know who plans to work next as we need more Black Beauty grit from Kibby Equipment in WRJ and tentatively Paul will pick this up on Tuesday but may or may not be able to get it to the hangar right away so please let me know your schedule.

I'd guess we're about 2/3 of the way done so please volunteer to get this part of the job finished. Experiance has proved that 2 guys works best on this with one keeping the hopper full while the other does the blasting, and then you switch off. That said I did do my entire fuselage by my self so working alone is doable.

Thanks,

Andy

Another sandblasting update

Team:

The tent has been modified to exhaust out the dust (enter from the front of the fuselage) but the sandblaster keeps getting clogged.

My next trip over will be with my sandblaster and I'll confirm that works before inviting others to try it.

Can you believe this was once flyable?

Hard to believe that just last fall this thing was flying around.

Thanks to Pete and Amish the sandblasting is well under way.

Saturday update

Team:

The tent is built but needs a little tweaking and the whole thing should be vented to the outside to keep the air clean.....

The sandblaster has been tested and I think we're ready to give it a go so please reply to me if you would like to work tomorrow after breakfast, say around noon and I'll show you how it's a one person job but maybe a second person could hang out and take a shift or at least learn how it's done.

Saturday plans

Team,

I plan to head over at around 10:30 or 11 tomorrow to build the tent and to see if I can put all the pieces together for sandblasting (SB). Andy G. is out of town for the weekend and I forgot to ask him if all the required items were in plain site so there is a chance that SB will not happen.

I would need one volunteer and will pick whomever lives closest to the field.

I will post the plans for Sunday at the end of the day on Saturday.

Sandblasting and the tent

Team,

I purchased the sandblasting grit (coal) and a roll of plastic so the next job is to build a tent around the fuselage and may not have time to work on this till Saturday morning so if anyone else wants to take on this project before then please speak up.

Otherwise I will email again on Friday with a plan for Saturday which will be to build the tent and start blasting.

2-33 Project Staus

Saturday March 22nd 2008

Today we removed a 4x8 section from a wall in the hangar, wheeled the 2-33 over the snow, under a few wings, through the hole and into the hangar, done deal.

Amish and Gregg removed the interior panels, seat belts, floor boards etc. while I removed the old fabric.

Tom took the Canopy, window and door home to refurbish.

The fuselage is not thoroughly inspected yet but I don't expect any surprises but we may have to remove the fiberglass nose bowl in order to clean and paint that section of the fuselage.

Next step is to purchase a ~30' x 30' sheet of plastic and build a sandblasting tent, then we'll have a training session and a sign up sandblasting shifts (will be great fun!).
